Matt emulsion is the most common paint chosen to paint walls. It has very little sheen and can often be touched up if damage occurs on the wall. It cannot, however, be washed, and if you do try to wash it, you will see the paint come off on your sponge or cloth.
Durable emulsion is sometimes called kitchen and bathroom paint or soft sheen. It is an emulsion paint that has a slight sheen, which allows you to wash it. Don’t confuse it with vinyl silk, which is much shinier and no longer as popular as it once was. This means it works well in high-traffic areas such as halls, kitchens and bathrooms. It can’t be touched up, and if damage occurs that requires a re-paint, you will need to paint the whole wall to prevent the repair from being visible (flashing).
